Representatives of VSY took part in a press conference on quotas for catching aquatic biological resources

In Moscow there was held a press conference with participation of representatives of fishing and shipbuilding industries. The discussion was devoted to possible changes in crab catching quotas. Vyborg Shipyard, corporate member of United Shipbuilding Corporation, took part in the press conference. At the moment, the order book of the shipyard includes 8 fishing vessels and 6 crab catching vessels. One of the main factors that made the Russian fishermen interested in ordering new vessels is earlier adopted draft law on state support for fishing fleet renovation at the Russian shipyards in the form of allocation of investment quotas.
It should be noted that at the moment the question is about changing the quotas allocation system and giving up the principle "quotas in return for investment" for crab catching vessels, in particular, because vessels of this type has low technical outfitting level.

"The crab catching vessels ordered at VSY are technically complex large vessels with a full-cycle plant, serious propulsion and maneuvering complex and crane equipment. The investment quotas were a long-awaited mechanism of state support for domestic civil shipbuilding and have already resulted in positive increase of shipbuilding orders at the Russian shipyards (there have been signed contracts for more than 40 new vessels). The changes that are currently being discussed may seriously destabilize the situation in several fields including shipbuilding", commented Deputy General Director of Vyborg Shipyard Andrey Popov.

In February next year, the Russian fishing industry will hold a conference and one of the main topics to be discussed will be quotas for catching aquatic biological resources.
