At Vyborg Shipyard there was held the keel-laying ceremony of the Icebreaking support vessel

On December 14, 2015 at Vyborg Shipyard (a corporate member of the United Shipbuilding Corporation) there was held the solemn keel-laying ceremony of the Icebreaking support vessel for Gazprom Neft.

The keel-laying ceremony was attended by representatives of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, Gazprom Neft, Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and also suppliers and partners of the shipyard.

«This is a very fruitful year, a fruitful autumn for us. We laid the keel of the prototype vessel in a series «Alexander Sannikov», launched the icebreaker project 21900M «Novorossiysk», delivered to the customer the prototype icebreaker "Vladivostok". In the near future we will hand over to the customer the second serial-built vessel «Murmansk». We do not just say that we are provided with work for the next years, but we prove to our customers as well as to ourselves that we can build vessels with good workmanship and on schedule. I would like to point out that it’s just the beginning of our cooperation with Gazprom Neft and we hope that it will bring worthy results to both companies», - general director of Vyborg Shipyard Alexander Solovyev noted.

The icebreaking support vessel will be built according to state-of-the-art design providing high icebreaking capability and considerable maneuverability at a rather small draught. The proposed concept of the icebreaking vessel with three thrusters (located in pair in the aft and one unit in the fore part of the vessel) provides maximized operability in harsh conditions of the intended operation area.

At Vyborg Shipyard by the order of Gazprom Neft there will be built two icebreaking vessels to be operated on the Arctic terminal of the Novoportovskoye oilfield located in the west of the Gulf of Ob on the Yamal peninsula. The keel-laying ceremony of the first serial-built vessel «Alexander Sannikov» was held at the shipyard on November 3, 2015. Main purpose of the vessels: icebreaking escorting of tankers, assistance at mooring  and loading, rescue operations, towage of vessels, fire-fighting, participation in oil response operations. The vessels are designed to be operated all year round at temperatures up to -50 C. According to the contract both vessels will be delivered to Gazprom Neft until 2018. Length of the icebreakers - 121,7 m, width - 26 m, draught - 8.0 m.
