The official ceremony of keel laying of a super trawler hull was held at Vyborg Shipyard on April 29, 2003

The official ceremony of keel laying of a super trawler hull to be built for the Norwegian company Bergen Yards, design by Vik-Sandvik engineering & design company, was held at Vyborg Shipyard on April 29, 2003.

The hull will be built under supervision of classification society Det norske Veritas and will be delivered to the Customer in autumn 2003.

Length 94,0 m
Midship beam 17,6 m
Depth to main deck 9,8 m

The trawler is purposed for catching fish and seafood in the Northern Sea. Construction of this kind of trawler/seiner hull is a new stage in the program of building of a series of trawlers at Vyborg Shipyard.

This vessel in its class will be biggest of ever built and represents a newly developed concept in which safety and convenience of the crew is of the utmost importance. In-built net bin makes it possible for the crew to work in a warm heated room in any weather conditions. Maximum speed of the vessel will be over 20 knots to deliver fish alive to consumers in the shortest time. The hull form is specially designed so that the vessel can develop maximum speed at low fuel consumption. Alive fish will be held in RSW tanks. The vessel has no cargo hatches and all raw products will be pumped out directly to the processing factory. It will help to avoid pollution at unloading fish. Instead of a usual bow thruster the vessel will be equipped with an azimuthal thruster which will be used at fishing and also as an emergency power plant.

Presently the shipyard is negotiating a contract for building a series of vessels of this design.

The ceremony was attended by the Consul General of Norway in St. Petersburg Mr. Otto J. Mamelund.
