At VSY there was held a solemn ceremony on the occasion of start of hull assembly works of icebreaker project 21900 M
Today, on the 5th of August at Vyborg Shipyard there took place a solemn ceremony on the occasion of start of hull assembly works of icebreaker project 21900 M on the deck of the semi-submersible barge “Atlant”. The ceremony was attended by representatives of Federal Agency of Marine and River Transport, FSUE "Rosmorport", directors of shipbuilding and ship-repair enterprises of the country. General Director of Vyborg Shipyard Alexander Solovyev mentioned that the event was significant for VSY for several reasons. «First of all, we can say with confidence that the Shipyard has overcome the crisis. For the last three years this is the first vessel built by the Shipyard workers «on a turn-key basis», and the barge was built within the shortest time –10 months. Secondly, the barge provides the Shipyard with new possibilities and prospects. Now it is possible to build vessels with length up to 150 m and breadth up to 32 m in Vyborg. It is our new position in the shipbuilding market», - Alexander Solovyev commented.
After the official part of the event hull assembly works of icebreaker have been started. The honorary right to carry out welding of two sections of the head icebreaker was given to the best workers of Vyborg Shipyard: Iliya Pivnikov, ship fitter, and Sergey Nikitichev, electric welder.
