Laying keel of Research Vessel at VSY
On July 1, Vyborg Shipyard (part of USC), held a keel-laying ceremony for the research vessel. The vessel will be built for the needs of Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
The ceremony was attended by: Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Medvedev Alexey Mikhailovich, Corresponding Member of RAS Lobanov Konstantin Valentinovich, daughter of Nikolay Pavlovich Laverov Laverova Tatyana Nikolaevna and the Yard management.
The guests were greeted by General Director of Vyborg Shipyard Alexander Solovyev: “Today we are laying down a research vessel, which will proudly bear the name of Nikolay Pavlovich Laverov, who devoted all his energies to serving the country and the science. It was my good fortune to be personally presented to the distinguished Nikolay Pavlovich, the person who completely devoted his life to the study of the most complex branches of science, the person who was not only an outstanding scientist, but also a prominent political figure. He remained in my memory as an energetic, cheerful, responsible and thoughtful leader who was respected by his colleagues and subordinates. On behalf of the shipyard management, we would like to thank our Customer for their trust, and we will do our best to honourably meet their expectations and requirements to the construction of this vessel”. Alexey Mikhailovich Medvedev noted historical importance of this event for the Russian science and wished successful implementation of this project.
The research vessel will be built for scientific research in the World Ocean.
Reference: Nikolay Pavlovich Laverov (12.01.1930 – 27.11.2016) - Academician of Russian Academy of Sciences, recognized leader of Soviet and Russian scientists in the field of geology, uranium geochemistry, exploration and development of minerals, who did a lot to create a powerful raw materials base in our country. A high position in his research is also held by problems of energy, radioecology, of the World Ocean and the Arctic as well as space monitoring of catastrophic natural processes.
