Keel laying of the first-in-series freezer trawler at Vyborg Shipyard
On 31 May 2017, at Vyborg Shipyard (part of United Shipbuilding Corporation) the keel laying ceremony took place for the first freezer trawler project ST-118L-ATF to be built on order of Arkhangelsk Trawl Fleet JSC.
The guests were greeted by the General Director of Vyborg Shipyard Alexander Solovyev: "Shipbuilding is certainly an important industry not only from a commercial point of view, but also with regard to the social and economic development of the country. It is gratifying to emphasize that this industry has been recently given special attention and certain state backing measures have been introduced. We are very pleased that the first vessel of such class and such size is being laid here at Vyborg Shipyard under the draft law on investment catch quotas. We assure that the order will be implemented with proper quality and hope to continue cooperation with Arkhangelsk Trawl Fleet, which has become our key Customer".
The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture - Head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries Ilya Shestakov, Vice President of United Shipbuilding Corporation Valery Fedorov, Head of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping Konstantin Palnikov, Deputy Governors of the Murmansk and Arkhangelsk Regions, representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Arkhangelsk Trawl Fleet and North-West Fishery Consortium.
"Today we are present not only at the birth of a new vessel, but also at the start of the program for the renovation of the Russian fishing fleet. We are proud that we do it first together with Vyborg Shipyard. We liked the level of technical equipment of the shipyard, qualification of the personnel and the attitude to the customer. All that taken together let us believe that Vyborg Shipyard will do a good job of this order”, - commented the Executive Director of Arkhangelsk Trawl Fleet Sergey Nesvetov.
After the welcoming words the first two sections of the vessel were welded together and a laying nameplate was attached. The vessel was named "The Barents Sea". The series of four fishing trawler-processors project ST-118L-ATF will be built at Vyborg Shipyard "turnkey".
Each vessel will be equipped with modern trawl equipment of the latest generation enabling to produce up to 160 tons of raw fish products per day. The vessels are intended for operation in the North and Far East basins. Project ST 118 measuring 86 m in length and 17 m in breadth will have Ice3 class with hull strengthening to Arc4. The vessel will have an automated fillets factory onboard, fish meal - fish oil plant, canning plant.
