Launching of the vessel hull, displacement of 2700 tons, for the Norwegian Customer «EDDA FLORA» was performed successfully by Vyborg Shipyard
On June, 21st, 2007 launching of the vessel hull, displacement of 2700 tons, for the Norwegian Customer «EDDA FLORA» was performed successfully by Vyborg Shipyard. This event completed practical realization of the new to the shipyard and unusual in shipbuilding methodology of hull assembling afloat on the barge. Using of the barge as a building berth was caused by overall width of the vessel, exceeding production facilities of the main building berth and the launching dock of the shipyard.
Vessel assembling from 300 t large-sized blocks at the building berth was performed on the rented barge of submerged-type «EIDEBARGE 28» with the following dimensions: 91,44x27,43x6,50 m. For performance of launching operation the suitable site of water area at Vyborg port with an equal bottom, a soft ground and demanded depth was found and equipped.
Submerging of the barge with the vessel hull was performed in three stages: ballasting of the barge by pumps to achieve a free board of 0,80 m, submerging of the barge stern till stern skegs touched the ground by free water intake to stern ballast tanks by gravity flow through shell valves and with further submerging of the barge bow by gravity flow through bottom valves until the vessel got afloat.
The sequence of ballast intake for barge submerging with prior landing of its stern against the ground allowed to secure problem stages of launching operation — to provide positive stability of the system «barge-vessel» at partial submerging of a barge deck into water, and then to have steady position of the barge with the vessel after full submerging of the deck by means of landing of the wide hull against the ground.
Successful performance of launching operation with confirmation of estimated characteristics of vessel sitting, stability and forecast retaining effect of a soft oozy ground on stability of the barge under water during operation made it possible for new assembling technology and launching of the vessels have been mastered enabling to expand a range of technical possibilities of the shipyard.
