Vyborg Shipyard concluded a contract with Arctech Helsinki Shipyard for delivery of blocks for an icebreaking supply vessel
Today, on April 18, 2014, Vyborg Shipyard JSC signed a Subcontract with Arctech Helsinki Shipyard being as well as Vyborg Shipyard JSC a corporate member of the United Shipbuilding Corporation. According to the Contract Vyborg Shipyard will fabricate sections and blocks for the icebreaking supply vessel, project “Sakhalin Energy”. The Ship Owner and Customer is Sovcomflot JSC. The vessel is a further developed version in a series of two icebreaking supply vessels “Alexey Chirikov” and “Vitus Bering” also built in cooperation between Arctech Helsinki Shipyard and VSY.

Due to its construction and outfitting the vessel is able to deliver a crew, necessary equipment and consumables year-round to offshore drilling platforms as well as perform rescue operations. Length of the vessel – 99,9 m, breadth - of 21 m, draft – 7,6 m, depth – 9,75 m. Displacement – apprx. 9 800 t, deadweight – 3000 t. The crew of the supply vessel - 28 persons, special personnel – 42 persons.
Vessels of the series have optimum energy performance parameters of the diesel-electric power plant and propulsion complex. Hulls of vessels have been specially designed to be operated in thick ice conditions, vessels have high icebreaking capability. They are outfitted with dynamic positioning system to maintain the vessel’s fixed position at the platform. The winterization system provides safety operation of vessels in ice with thickness up to 1,7 meters.
