Vyborg Shipyard signed contract for construction of a port icebreaker under Yamal LNG project
On April 30, 2015 there was signed a contract between Vyborg Shipyard JSC (a corporate member of the United Shipbuilding Corporation) and FSUE "Atomflot" for construction of a port icebreaker under Yamal LNG project.
The port icebreaker 10 MW with innovative propulsion system will be built at Vyborg Shipyard to be operated in the port of Sabetta.
The shipbuilding contract was signed by General director of Vyborg Shipyard Alexander Solovyev and General director of FSUE "Atomflot" Vyacheslav Ruksha at the Moscow office of the United Shipbuilding Corporation in the presence of the USC President Alexey Rakhmanov and General director of Yamal LNG Evgeny Kot. According to the contract the shipyard is responsible for engineering and construction of the vessel. The delivery is scheduled for November, 2018. The vessel is intended for escorting LNG carriers through approach channel and in the water area of the Sabetta port on the Yamal peninsula.
Characteristics of the vessel: length - 84,3 m, breadth - 21,3 m, draught - 6,5 m, deadweight taking into account transported cargo at maximum draught - no less than 2 thousand tons, icebreaking capability - 1,5 m. The distinctive feature of the vessel is innovative propulsion complex consisting of four thrusters with capacity abt. 2,5 MW each. The thrusters are located in pairs in bow and in stern that provides maximized operability in ice conditions, excellent maneuverability and performance of special operations in the water area of the Sabetta port where at the present moment LNG plant is under construction for Yamal LNG project.
The shipowner and operator of the vessel - FSUE "Atomflot" in November, 2014 signed a package contract on escorting of the vessels and servicing of the water area at the Sabetta port for Yamal LNG project valid till December 31, 2040.
"Elaboration and preparation of the present project has been long-time and complicated process. And the progress reached today would be impossible without support from the United Shipbuilding Corporation and Yamal LNG JSC. Also I would like to note high level trust from the Customer – FSUE " Atomflot " and I can certainly say that Vyborg Shipyard will justify the confidence, having built the technically complicated vessel in full conformity with the contract obligations", – commented General director of VSY Alexander Solovyev.
