Launching of Icebreaker Murmansk built in cooperation of Vyborg Shipyard and Arctech Helsinki Shipyard
At the Finnish Arctech Helsinki Shipyard Icebreaker Murmansk 21900M constructed in cooperation with Vyborg Shipyard has been transferred from dry dock to outfitting quay, following which there was held her name-giving ceremony. Murmansk is the second serial-built vessel. Two more icebreakers of the same design at the present time are under turn-key construction at Vyborg Shipyard.
“Work division is as follows: Vyborg Shipyard is acting as general contractor in charge of practically all procurement, developing of technical design and fabrication of about a half hull structures. Joint construction of the second serial icebreaker together with Arctech Helsinki Shipyard has shown that inter-yard cooperation is a key condition of the quality shipbuilding. Joint projects of the two partner yards VSY and AHS have more than once proved their competence and success”. - commented general director of Vyborg Shipyard Alexander Solovyev.
After launching on board Icebreaker Murmansk further outfitting works will be performed afloat – mooring tests, sea and ice trials. Handover to the customer and operational commissioning is planned for August 2015.

Icebreakers project 21900M are built on the basis of a Russian design. State contracting authority is Federal Agency of Marine and River Transport, building owner - FSUE "Rosmorport".
Icebreaking capability up to 1.5 m. Main purpose: independent ice escorting of heavy-tonnage vessels; towage, fire fighting on floaters and other facilities; salvage and assistance to distressed vessels; transportation of cargos.
