Keel-laying ceremony of the 2nd Semi-Submersible Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit ordered by LLC Gazflot took place at Vyborg Shipyard JSC
On 26th December 2008 the keel-laying ceremony of the 2nd Semi-Submersible Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit ordered by LLC Gazflot took place at Vyborg Shipyard JSC, The Shipyard is contracted to perform the full complex of works on designing and construction on turn-key basis of two SMODUs for the needs of LLC Gazflot within the framework of the program of development of Stockman Gas Condensate Field. Delivery of the first Unit is planned for the 3d quarter 2010, second — 1st quarter 2011.
SMODUs construction is based on concept design MOSS CS-50 MK-II VI generation developed by the Norwegian engineering company Moss Maritime for northern seas. Units will be of the catamaran type with two pontoons and six stabilizing columns supporting the upper hull and topside.
The Units are designed to operate in arctic conditions in drifting ice thickness to 70 cm at temperatures down to — 30 degrees C in water depth from 70 to 500m, drilling depth 7 500 m. Rated life of the Units is 20 years with provision for further extension.
The keel-laying ceremony was attended by the Board members of Vyborg Shipyard JSC, heads of local administration.
