Next icebreaker project 21900M will be built by Vyborg Shipyard in cooperation with Arctech Helsinki Shipyard
Vyborg Shipyard and Arctech Helsinki Shipyard will build an icebreaker project 21900M ordered by Federal Agency of Marine and River Transport from United Shipbuilding Corporation, whose members the both companies are.
Subcontract for construction of the vessel was signed on 18th December 2012. Vyborg Shipyard will provide design, main equipment package and fabricate about half of the vessel hull. Arctech Helsinki Shipyard acting as subcontractor to Vyborg Shipyard will provide fabrication of the remaining part and assembly of the hull, installation and commissioning of the equipment including VSY supplies, launching, testing and handover of the ready vessel to the customer.
“This order is certainly a next step on the way of developing cooperation between VSY and AHS. In fact, realization of such a project makes it possible for the both companies to show again their capability to produce complex vessels of heavy ice class”, - commented Alexander Solovyev, General Director of Vyborg Shipyard.
“This order is very important for Arctech Helsinki Shipyard. It will provide a significant workload of the yard facilities for the next two years”, - mentioned Esko Mustamaki, Managing Director of AHS.
Keel-laying of the icebreaker, third for Vyborg Shipyard, will take place on 26th December 2012. The first two vessels were laid on 17th October and 12th December 2012. Deliveries will be made in May, August and October, 2015.
Icebreaker 21900M is an upgraded version of project 21900, icebreaking capability up to 1.5 m. Purpose of the vessel: independent ice escorting of heavy-tonnage vessels; towage, fire fighting on floaters and other facilities; salvage and assistance to distressed vessels; transportation of cargos.
