Next icebreaker project 21900M was laid at Vyborg Shipyard JSC
On 26th December the official ceremony of keel-laying of the next serial icebreaker project 21900 took place at Vyborg Shipyard. The vessel is under construction by the order of Federal Agency of Marine and River Transport. At the present moment two icebreakers of this project are being constructed "on a turn-key basis" at Vyborg Shipyard. Arctech Helsinki Shipyard will take part in realization of the project as Subcontractor.
«We have worked with the Finnish Shipyard for a long time, and I am sure that in this cooperation we will successfully complete the icebreaker project in due time. The distribution of works is as follows: Vyborg Shipyard is acting as General Contractor. Our responsibility includes almost all procurement, developing of engineering design and fabrication about half of the vessel hull. Further completed blocks will be delivered to Finland to be assembled into the hull, probably, with the involvement of the Vyborg workers. Final outfitting, commissioning works and testing will be performed at the same place», - commented Alexander Solovyev, General Director of Vyborg Shipyard.
The diesel-powered Icebreaker project 21900M has ice-breaking capacity up to 1,5 m. The vessel is intended for independent ice escorting of heavy-tonnage vessels, towage, fire fighting on floaters and other facilities, salvage and assistance to distressed vessels, transportation of cargos. Displacement at max. draft – 14 317,5 t, length – 119,8 m, width – 27,5 m.
