Icebreaker Murmansk project 21900M delivered to the customer at Vyborg Shipyard
On December 25, 2015 at Vyborg Shipyard (corporate member of United Shipbuilding Corporation) there was held a ceremony of signing the delivery & acceptance protocol of icebreaker Murmansk project 21900 M built by Vyborg Shipyard in cooperation with Arctech Helsinki Shipyard by order of the Federal Agency of Marine and River Transport.
The protocol was signed by Rosmorport, United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), Vyborg Shipyard. Under the contract concluded in 2012 Vyborg Shipyard was to provide a full range of design and turnkey construction works for a series of linear diesel-electric icebreakers project 21900 M. Lead ship Vladivostok was handed over to the customer in October 2015.
“The icebreakers 21900 M will be providing winter navigation assistance in the Baltic Sea and, to a certain extent, in the Arctic region performing missions set by Rosmorport and the government of the Russian Federation. I wish to the icebreaker Murmansk fair seas and smooth cruising to the crew "- commented General Director of Vyborg Shipyard Alexander Solovyev.
As part of the commemorative event on the icebreaker Murmansk there was hoisted the flag of the Russian Federation. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Government of the Russian Federation, Government of the Leningrad Region, Federal Agency of Marine and River Transport, Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and the yard partners.
Vice President for civil shipbuilding of USC Evgeny Zagorodny said in his congratulatory speech: "This ceremonial Pre-New Year event is a mark of the joint efforts resulted in a state-of-the-art vessel which will be operated for the benefit of the Baltic fleet and development of the vast of the Arctic. I extend to the shipbuilders my greetings on the successful delivery of the icebreaker and wish you to continue in the same spirit in the next year, and USC will use its best efforts to bring new orders to the shipyard".
General Director of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping Konstantin Palnikov commented: "As a classification society the Register is actively involved in implementing the program of construction of the icebreaker fleet of Russia. Vessels of project 21900 M are a new generation of diesel-electric icebreakers. They have enhanced performance in view of the operating experience of the predecessor icebreakers providing icebreaker assistance in winter navigation in the Finnish Gulf".
Keel laying of the icebreaker Murmansk took place at Vyborg Shipyard on December 26, 2012. The vessel icebreaking capability is up to 1.5 meters. Its main purpose: independent ice escorting of heavy-tonnage vessels; towage, fire fighting on floaters and other facilities; salvage and assistance to distressed vessels; transportation of cargos.
The third serial icebreaker Novorossiysk will be handed over to the customer at the end of the year 2016.
