On November 25th 2010 there were successfully finalized sea trials of the first serial SSFDR “Polar Star"
The sea trials were performed by Vyborg Shipyard JSC together with the South Korean company Samsung Heavy Industries in the waters of the Sea of Japan. The 5 days’ test program included check of speed and maneuverability features of the Rig, performance and compatibility of all mechanisms, check of unattended servicing of general ship systems and machinery, dropping anchors in seagoing conditions. In course of the sea trials all the Rig systems and facilities proved to be in compliance with the technical design criteria.
The purpose of the "Polar Star" SSFDR is drilling of exploratory and recovery wells on one of the world largest deposits – Shtokman Gas Condensate Field located in the central part of shelf of the Russian sector of the Barents Sea 650 kilometers away from Murmansk . In its first season in 2011 the Rig will be operated on Sakhalin shelf.
The "Polar Star" SSFDR is equipped with all necessary equipment for efficient and safe operation in the severe conditions of theBarents Sea and also for comfortable accommodation of the crew numbering up to 128 persons. The Customer to the Rig is LLC «Gazflot».
At the present time integration tests of drilling complex and incorporating comments after sea trials are under way; thereafter the Rig will be handed over to the Customer in full conformity with the contract terms in December 2010.
The second SSFDR "Northern Lights" will be handed over to the Customer in April 2011.
