At Vyborg Shipyard there was held launching ceremony of the Icebreaker "Novorossiysk"
Today, on October 29th, 2015, at Vyborg Shipyard (a corporate member of the United Shipbuilding Corporation) the solemn launching ceremony of the serial diesel electric-powered Icebreaker "Novorossiysk" project 21900М took place.
"Today we start launching of the third-serial built Icebreaker "Novorossiysk" project 21900 M. The vessel will be delivered to the Customer in 2016, and we express confidence that we will hand over it with our excellent Vyborg quality - not worse than on the vessel "Vladivostok " recently delivered to the Customer. The work load of our production capacities allows us to feel confident about the future and guarantee to our Customers that we will fulfill all orders for the benefit of Russia within the scheduled dates», - General director of Vyborg Shipyard Alexander Solovyev opened the solemn ceremony.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Head of Federal Agency of Marine and River Transport Alexander Poshivay, General director of Rosmorport Andrey Tarasenko, Head of Municipality "City of Vyborg" Alexander Lysov and Chairman of Novorossisk City Duma Alexander Shatalov. The General Director of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping Konstantin Palnikov noted that for the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping it was a great honour to attend the launching ceremony of the vessel in which documentation there will be specified RS notation. "RS specialists who carry out technical supervision over the vessel construction at VSY noted high quality of work performed by shipbuilders», - Konstantin Palnikov mentioned and thanked the yard management and staff for their excellent work.
Anzhelika Ryskova was nominated Godmother of the vessel. By the long-standing sea-borne tradition the Godmother crashed a bottle of champagne against the board of the Icebreaker and gave the name "Novorossiysk". The Godmother presented to the Director of the FSUE “Rosmorport” North-Western Basin Branch Sergey Pylin an icon of Saint Nikolaos, a patron of travellers and seafarers. Handing over the icon to the Head of this Branch has a reason behind it - the vessel is supposed to be further operated by the company.
After launching there will be further performed outfitting works afloat, sea and ice trials. Upon completion of all trials and class survey the vessel will be put into operation. "Novorossiysk" is one of three icebreakers in a series with capacity about 18 MW planned for operation according to subprogram «Marine transport» of the Federal Target Programme "Development of the Russian transport system (2010-2020) ".
Icebreaking capability of "Novorossiysk" is up to 1,5 m. Main purpose: independent ice escorting of heavy-tonnage vessels; towage, fire fighting on floaters and other facilities. The keel-laying ceremony of the vessel was held at Vyborg Shipyard in December, 2012.
