Lower hull of the “Polar Star” SSFDR is delivered to South Korea
On 20th June lower hull of the “Polar Star” SSFDR arrived at SHI yard in South Korea. During transportation which took 42 days lower hull on board the special semi-submersible transport vessel “Talisman” (HTV) followed the route from the Baltic Sea to the North Sea, then alongside the coast of Europe and through the Strait of La Manche, Bay of Biscay then passing through the Strait of Gibraltar, Mediterranean Sea, Suez canal, Red Sea and Indian Ocean.
Next stage will be integration of SSFDR topside and lower hull. It will be one more unique technological operation of crane free installation of SSFDR MOSS CS – 50 MK II topside to be performed by Vyborg shipbuilders in cooperation with the Korean and Dutch subcontractors. Briefly, integration technology is as follows: lower hull of the platform will be submerged by ballasting, then HTV with topside on board will float over. After proper positioning of topside HTV will be submerged to reach mating of topside and lower hull columns. After technological welding of joints HTV will be submerged to transfer load and leave the integration site.
Estimated date of float over operation is 5th July 2010.
