Works on the Lower Hull of the Polyarnaya Zvezda (Polar Star) semi-submersible drilling rig are proceeding
Together with vendor service engineers Vyborg Shipyard is carrying out commissioning works on the Lower Hull of the Polyarnaya Zvezda (Polar Star) semi-submersible drilling rig for LLC «Gazflot». Assisted by representatives of the German company Flowserve supplying a full set of thrusters for the Rig VSY specialists have started installation of the equipment. Late in December 2009 there were performed mechanical completion & preparatory works. Cabling and electrical installation on the Rig Hull is planned for the end of January. Then it will be the turn of commissioning works involving the English company Converteam, supplier of the electrical package.
Fabrication of the Topside of the Rig by the subcontractor Samsung Heavy Industry is close to completion. Only one, but quite complicated milestone is left — installation of helideck. This operation is planned for January.
Before the New Year Vyborg Shipyard and Samsung Heavy Industry made an agreement on performance of a part of commissioning works of the equipment installed on the Topside at the premises of SHI in Korea. There will be commissioned some part of the Rig equipment including drilling equipment. Acceptance tests will be submitted for approval to the Customer Gazflot and RMRS. Special attention is paid to commissioning of diesel-generators and tests of drilling equipment. Successful performance of these works will be decisive for meeting the contract delivery date as tests of drilling equipment are most time-consuming. VSY specialists believe that starting commissioning tests in Korea will make it possible to reduce testing period at the integration site (in Murmansk).
